Real Flamenco Dance Is Not Choreographed
Nowadays flamenco is so popular around the world that UNESCO named it intangible cultural heritage in 2010. Anywhere around the world you can find flamenco schools for learning all aspects of this music. This is especially true when it comes to the dancing. Pretty much any self-respected dance school offers flamenco classes to anyone wishing to learn. In a way this is great because of the great exposure this gives to the Spanish culture. However, Real Flamenco Dance Is Not Choreographed.
Making easy money is not necessarily a bad thing, I do not really disagree with that. What I disagree with is with making money out of misguiding people into thinking they are learning something when they are actually really not. In this case I am referring to flamenco dance. Now I don’t want you to go thinking that a choreography is bad. It really isn’t; however, let me ask you one thing. Do you think gypsies were putting a choreography when they first started this wonderful art? Or were they improvising their dance steps based on a series of rhythmic parameters that can be heard within the music? I think the obvious answer is the latter.
So when learning flamenco you should be wary of those claiming to know it, while only teaching choreography. Even in Spain this is a problem, as not all the Maestros teach you right way. One the few of such great maestros is El Torombo Suarez, he teaches you how to dance without any choreography, and really makes you understand the real essence of flamenco. We at Flamenco Benalmadena have the privilege of having the Maestros Jaime El Estampio and Asami, who was professionally trained in Seville by Torombo Suarez himself.
When you start learning flamenco dance without any choreography you will quickly realize that you will be making music with your body. The wonderful movements and stomps you make are based on the rhythms you hear, and you will discover that your dancing is very similar to a percussionist. So, you will be making all kind of crazy rhythms as percussionists do, and your dance will also be very original.
If you would like to really learn how dance the original way, then be sure to join one of our courses. Also be sure to contact us, and we will give you all the information you need to join the program. We at Flamenco Benalmadena are dedicated to preserving the real flamenco, and want to teach everybody the essence of this wonderful music.
